12 Houses in Kelapa Gading Burned Down

As many as 12 houses on Jalan Tabah Raya, RT 01/09, Kelapagading Barat Urban Village, Kelapa Gading Sub-District, North Jakarta, were burned on Sunday (8/3) at 2.50 AM. There is no casualty reported in the incident which costs hundreds of millions of rupiah of material losses.

“The fire was caused by electricity short-circuit in one of resident’s houses. As many as 20 fire trucks were deployed to the location. The fire was finally extinguished in about two hours afterwards,” stated Head of North Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department, Frans Hodden Silalahi.

Because of this incident, 60 families lost their homes. From that amount, only 15 families consist of 55 people took refuge in tents that were set up around the location. Meanwhile, the rest of the families have not returned from their homecoming trips.

“There were more than one family in one house. Based on data recording until this afternoon, 60 families become fire victims,” informed Head of Kelapa Gading Barat Urban Village, Sugiharto Timbo.

Meanwhile, Head of North Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Ika Lestari Adji, said that her department has sent 50 packaged meals for the fire victims.

“This morning we sent 50 packaged meals and also tents for the refugees,” she told.
